2.18.4. Proper country determination by IP address

Some services may not always properly identify a country based on its IP address. This is often due to the use of outdated or free databases, which are updated later than their commercial counterparts.

Ways to more accurately determine the country:

• MaxMind. The MaxMind service is one of the most popular providers of databases for determining the country by IP address. On the GeoIP2 Precision Service Demo page, you can check the IP addresses you need and find out which countries they belong to.
• WHOIS. You can determine the country by IP address using the WHOIS service. Simply check the desired IP address — the country code will be indicated in the "country" line of the check results. To check, you can use our tool Whois service or any third-party tool, such as whois.com or ripe.net.
